Therapy using action observation and sound for improving balance and walking after stroke
The Effects of Action Observation Therapy With and Without Acoustic Stimulation on Balance and Gait Among Stroke Survivors
NA · Riphah International University · NCT06059742

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of Action Observation Therapy, both with and without acoustic stimulation, to improve gait and balance in stroke patients. The therapy involves patients observing movements to activate mirror neurons, followed by performing those movements themselves. The addition of rhythmic acoustic stimulation aims to enhance the therapy's effectiveness by aligning with the patient's walking cadence. The study focuses on stroke survivors aged 40-60 who can walk a few steps and have a certain level of cognitive ability.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are stroke survivors aged 40-60 who can walk at least five steps and have a Berg balance score above 21.
Not a fit: Patients with other neurological diseases, cognitive impairments, or significant visual and auditory impairments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this therapy could significantly improve balance and walking abilities in stroke patients, enhancing their quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: While the specific combination of action observation therapy with acoustic stimulation is novel, similar approaches have shown promise in improving rehabilitation outcomes for stroke patients.
