What this trial studies

This is an observational review of all pediatric patients (ages 1–18) who underwent therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) in the Pediatric Nephrology Unit at Sohag University Hospital. Clinical data will be collected on indications for TPE, the procedures used (including vascular access and replacement fluids), immediate and short-term outcomes, and any complications. Results will be compared with national and international reports to identify opportunities for improvement and standardization. Patients unable to tolerate central line placement, who are septic or hemodynamically unstable, or who have allergies to FFP or albumin are excluded.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Children aged 1–18 years treated at Sohag University who undergo or are candidates for TPE and who can tolerate central line placement, are hemodynamically stable, and have no allergy to plasma products.

Not a fit: Children who are hemodynamically unstable, actively septic, unable to tolerate central line placement, or allergic to fresh frozen plasma or albumin would be excluded and unlikely to benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help standardize TPE protocols and improve safety and outcomes for pediatric nephrology patients at Sohag and similar centers.

How similar studies have performed: Numerous national and international reports show TPE can be safe and beneficial in selected pediatric nephrology cases, although practices and outcomes vary by center.
