What this trial studies
This project examines the effectiveness of a text messaging intervention called text4FATHER, aimed at recruiting first-time fathers-to-be through social media across the U.S. The program sends twice-weekly texts to fathers from mid-pregnancy through two months postnatally, providing information and resources to enhance their involvement and support the well-being of the infant and mother. The content is developed based on formative research and expert consensus to ensure relevance and efficacy in promoting father engagement.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are first-time fathers-to-be who are at least 18 years old, live in the U.S., speak English, and are willing to receive text messages.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those who are not first-time fathers, do not speak English, or have reported safety concerns in their relationship with the mother-to-be.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the well-being of infants and parents by fostering greater involvement of first-time fathers during critical early stages of development.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using mobile health interventions to engage parents, but this specific approach targeting first-time fathers is relatively novel.
