Testing urine biomarkers for chronic kidney disease progression
Urinary Tubular Biomarkers for Chronic Kidney Disease

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to develop a high-throughput tubular test panel that assesses urine biomarkers to improve the prediction of chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression. Currently, CKD diagnosis relies on glomerular function tests, but this study focuses on tubular function, which is crucial for understanding disease progression. By analyzing urine samples already collected as part of standard care, the study will compare the performance of the new tubular test panel against existing methods. The goal is to enable earlier initiation of kidney-protective treatments for patients with CKD stage 3.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults diagnosed with chronic kidney disease stage 3.
Not a fit: Patients with active glomerulonephritis, kidney transplant recipients, or those undergoing chemotherapy or immunotherapy for malignancy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more accurate predictions of CKD progression and timely interventions for patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have suggested that focusing on tubular function may enhance the understanding of CKD progression, indicating this approach has potential but is still being explored.
