What this trial studies

This pilot study aims to evaluate various techniques for the self-removal of intrauterine devices (IUDs) and to gather insights on patient preferences and success indicators related to this process. Participants will receive instructions on both current and novel self-removal methods and will attempt to remove their IUDs in a clinical setting, where a healthcare provider will assist if necessary. The study seeks to enhance the ability of patients to safely and effectively remove their IUDs when they choose to do so.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals presenting at the clinic for IUD removal or exchange who can provide informed consent in English or Spanish.

Not a fit: Patients with complicated IUD removal needs or previous failed attempts may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could empower patients to manage their IUD removal more independently and safely.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is relatively novel, similar studies exploring self-removal techniques have shown promise in other contexts.
