What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effects of daily consumption of omega-3 fortified smoothies on the Omega-3 Index (O3I) and physical performance outcomes among active duty soldiers. Participants will be randomly assigned to either an omega-3 smoothie group or a placebo group for eight weeks, during which they will complete Army Combat Fitness Tests and provide dietary and physical activity information. The study will measure changes in omega-3 levels and assess their relationship with performance and recovery metrics. The findings could provide insights into the nutritional needs of soldiers and the potential benefits of omega-3 supplementation.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are active duty military personnel stationed at Fort Drum or Fort Campbell who can participate in fitness testing.

Not a fit: Patients with fish allergies will not benefit from this study due to the omega-3 supplementation involved.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance soldiers' physical performance and recovery through improved omega-3 levels.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated positive outcomes from omega-3 supplementation in relation to physical performance and recovery, suggesting this approach may be effective.
