Testing new inhibitors for colon cancer treatment
Test of CD47-SIRPα Inhibitors on the Immune Microenvironment Colon Cancer
This study is testing new drugs that aim to help the immune system fight colon cancer by blocking certain cells that make it harder for the body to attack tumors.

What this trial studies
This study aims to develop novel CD47-SIRPα inhibitors using small molecules to counteract immune suppression caused by tumor-associated macrophages in colon cancer. By employing structure-based drug design, the researchers seek to create selective and potent inhibitors that can effectively target the tumor microenvironment with reduced toxicity compared to traditional antibody therapies. The study will utilize organoids derived from patient biopsies to accurately model the immune interactions within tumors, allowing for a thorough evaluation of the immunotherapy's effectiveness.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults over 18 with metastatic or non-metastatic colon cancer, or those experiencing recurrence for whom surgery is proposed.
Not a fit: Patients who have undergone emergency colon cancer surgery or are unable to provide consent may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance anti-tumor immunity and improve treatment outcomes for patients with colon cancer.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies targeting the immune microenvironment have shown promise, suggesting potential for success.
