What this trial studies
This randomized controlled trial aims to investigate the role of emotion regulation in enhancing treatment outcomes for children diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD). Participants will be categorized into high and low emotion dysregulation groups and then randomly assigned to either a behavioral parent training intervention or a child-directed treatment focusing on problem-solving and emotion regulation skills. The study will assess treatment effects at multiple time points, including pre-treatment, post-treatment, and follow-ups at 6 and 18 months. The goal is to determine if aligning treatment with a child's emotion regulation skills can improve overall treatment efficacy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder who are Icelandic speaking.
Not a fit: Patients with an IQ below 70 may not benefit from this study due to exclusion criteria.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more effective, tailored treatments for children with ODD, improving their emotional and behavioral outcomes.
