What this trial studies
This pilot study aims to evaluate the acceptability and usability of a smartphone app designed to promote physical activity among African American women. Fifteen participants, who are physically inactive, will engage in a 12-week program where they will use the PA4Health app and wear a Fitbit tracker. The study will gather data through self-reports and interviews to understand user experiences, challenges, and suggestions for improving the app's appeal and functionality. The intervention includes tailored text messages, educational content, goal setting, and an activity locator feature.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are African American women aged 18-64 who are physically inactive and own a smartphone.
Not a fit: Patients with physical limitations, significant medical conditions, or those who are pregnant may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance physical activity levels and overall health among African American women.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies focusing on physical activity interventions, this specific approach targeting African American women with a tailored app is relatively novel.
