What this trial studies
This intervention focuses on the Cholera Hospital-Based Intervention for 7 Days (CHoBI7), which aims to reduce cholera and diarrheal diseases through improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices. The study will tailor the CHoBI7 program for delivery in rural health facilities and assess its feasibility in both urban and rural settings. It will evaluate the effectiveness of providing a modified WASH package that includes a soapy water bottle and chlorine tablets. The goal is to promote sustained handwashing and safe drinking water practices among households with young children.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are diarrhea patients with three or more loose stools in the past 24 hours, living without running water, and having a child under five years old in their household.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have a working mobile phone in their household may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce the incidence of cholera and diarrheal diseases in vulnerable populations, particularly young children.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with similar WASH interventions, particularly during cholera outbreaks, indicating a promising approach.
