What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of a telenovela video series designed to educate and support family caregivers of hospice patients. The intervention, named NOVELA, enhances usual hospice care by incorporating these videos into telehealth visits, aiming to improve caregivers' self-efficacy and reduce anxiety. The bilingual video series addresses critical issues faced by caregivers, such as decision-making and pain management, and is accompanied by a conversation guide to facilitate discussions. The study compares the outcomes of caregivers receiving the NOVELA intervention to those receiving standard hospice care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are family caregivers of hospice patients who are over 18 years old and have access to the internet.
Not a fit: Patients whose caregivers are actively dying or those with cognitive impairments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the emotional well-being and effectiveness of caregivers supporting hospice patients.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that informational telenovelas positively impact Latino family caregivers' attitudes towards end-of-life care, suggesting potential success for this approach.
