What this trial studies
This program aims to improve asthma management for low-income, minority teenagers who experience high rates of asthma-related issues. It utilizes a telemedicine approach that includes creating individualized asthma management plans through virtual visits with specialists, directly observed therapy for medication adherence, and follow-up telehealth consultations. The goal is to ensure that these teens receive optimal, guideline-based treatment for their asthma. By addressing the unique challenges faced by this population, the program seeks to enhance their overall health outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are teenagers aged 12 to 17 with moderate to severe asthma who live in the Rochester area.
Not a fit: Patients who are currently receiving asthma specialist care or those who are not comfortable seeing an additional specialist may not benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce asthma-related emergencies and improve the quality of life for affected teens.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using telemedicine for chronic disease management, suggesting that this approach could be effective for asthma care as well.
