What this trial studies

This study aims to adapt an evidence-based diabetes prevention program specifically for Hispanic adolescents aged 12-16 years who are obese. It utilizes a telehealth approach to address barriers such as transportation and childcare, making it easier for families to participate. The study involves focus groups with adolescents and parents to gather insights on program features and technology use, followed by expert panel reviews and usability testing of the adapted program. The goal is to create a feasible and effective intervention that can be delivered remotely.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are Hispanic adolescents aged 12-16 years with obesity, defined as a BMI at or above the 95th percentile.

Not a fit: Patients who are currently taking medications that affect activity or glucose metabolism, or those with conditions that prevent normal physical activity, may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes among Hispanic adolescents by providing accessible health education and support.

How similar studies have performed: While telehealth interventions for diabetes prevention are emerging, this specific adaptation for Hispanic adolescents is novel and has not been extensively tested.
