What this trial studies
This study examines the implementation of a direct-to-patient teledermatology pathway using a mobile app to improve access to dermatology care. It will assess the impact of this approach on health system utilization and patient satisfaction while also developing an artificial intelligence system to evaluate patient-submitted images. The study will involve multiple VA facilities and will compare access metrics between teledermatology and traditional in-person consultations. Surveys will be conducted to gather feedback from patients and staff regarding their experiences with the teledermatology process.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are new patients referred to dermatology at the participating VA facilities from 2021 to 2025.
Not a fit: Patients who are not new dermatology referrals or those seen outside the specified VA facilities will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance access to dermatology care for patients, especially in underserved areas.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with teledermatology and AI approaches, indicating potential for success in this novel application.
