What this trial studies
This single-center randomized trial in Mérignac compares a structured tele-rehabilitation program to no formal physical therapy after total hip arthroplasty, with participants followed for six months. The primary outcome is the Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, and secondary outcomes include patient-reported measures, satisfaction, healthcare utilization, and return to physical activity. Eligible patients must be French-speaking adults with an email address, a smartphone, and social security coverage, while those with revision surgery or major neurological/psychiatric comorbidities are excluded. The design is prospective with two parallel arms and standardized follow-up assessments.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults having a first total hip arthroplasty who speak French, have an email and smartphone, and are covered by a social security scheme are the ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Patients with revision hip surgery, significant neurological or psychiatric disorders that interfere with rehabilitation, those unable to communicate symptoms, or without a smartphone or social security coverage are unlikely to benefit from this approach.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, remote rehab could improve mobility and recovery after hip replacement while reducing travel burden and improving access to postoperative care.
How similar studies have performed: Previous tele-rehabilitation programs after joint replacement—particularly knee arthroplasty—have shown promising functional and satisfaction outcomes, but robust evidence specifically for total hip arthroplasty is more limited.
