What this trial studies
This study aims to enhance emotion regulation competencies in adolescents by implementing the iTRAC-HERO intervention, which focuses on teaching emotion regulation skills within the context of sexual health education. Adolescence is a critical period for developing behaviors that impact future health, particularly regarding risky sexual behavior. The intervention is designed for 7th graders aged 12 to 14, and it builds on previous research showing that improved emotion regulation can lead to healthier sexual choices. The program will be tested in participating schools, with a focus on engaging adolescents in a developmentally appropriate manner.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are 7th graders aged 12 to 14 who are attending participating schools and have parents or guardians who speak English or Spanish.
Not a fit: Patients who may not benefit from this study include those with developmental disorders or those unable to read at a 4th grade level.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce risky sexual behaviors among adolescents, leading to better health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with similar approaches that integrate emotion regulation skills into health education, making this a promising intervention.
