What this trial studies
This project, known as 'Sport Therapy', aims to assess the impact of targeted physical activity on children and adolescents undergoing treatment for malignant hemopathies, such as leukemia and lymphoma. By collaborating with pediatricians and sports physicians, the study seeks to improve the physical capabilities of these young patients, who often experience reduced respiratory and cardiac function due to prolonged inactivity during treatment. The goal is to facilitate their recovery and reintegration into their communities post-treatment, thereby preventing chronic diseases associated with a sedentary lifestyle.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children and adolescents diagnosed with malignant hemopathies who are receiving treatment at the Maria Letizia Verga Center.
Not a fit: Children under the age of 2 may not benefit from this study due to the specific physical activity requirements and developmental considerations.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance the recovery and quality of life for young cancer patients by improving their physical health and social reintegration.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promising results with exercise interventions in pediatric cancer patients, indicating that this approach is both relevant and potentially beneficial.
