Tailored resistance exercise for older adults
A Tailored Intervention to Prevent Age-Related Declines in Muscle Power and Functional Ability
This study tests if a personalized resistance exercise program can help older adults aged 65 to 80 maintain their strength and everyday abilities better than a standard exercise routine.

What this trial studies
This study investigates a novel approach to resistance exercise aimed at preserving functional ability in older adults by tailoring exercise doses based on individual force-velocity profiles. The intervention consists of a 12-week progressive power-oriented resistance exercise program designed specifically for community-dwelling adults aged 65 to 80. Participants will be randomly assigned to either the tailored exercise group or a traditional resistance exercise group to assess the effectiveness of this individualized approach. The goal is to determine if personalized training can lead to better outcomes in muscle power and functional ability compared to standard methods.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are community-dwelling adults aged 65 to 80 who have not engaged in systematic resistance exercise in the past year.
Not a fit: Patients with unstable cardiovascular or neuromuscular diseases, recent surgeries, or low functional ability may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance the functional ability and quality of life for older adults by improving muscle power.
How similar studies have performed: While traditional resistance training has been effective for many, this tailored approach is novel and has not been extensively tested in previous studies.
