What this trial studies
This study investigates the effectiveness of Tai Chi in treating chronic insomnia disorder that is accompanied by excessive arousal and anxiety. Patients suffering from chronic insomnia often experience daytime fatigue and difficulty sleeping, which can be exacerbated by anxiety. The study aims to explore how Tai Chi, a physical and mental exercise, may improve sleep quality and reduce anxiety through various physiological pathways. By combining Tai Chi with sleep hygiene education, the researchers hope to provide a non-pharmacological treatment option for individuals struggling with these issues.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who meet the DSM-5 criteria for insomnia disorder and have a PSQI score greater than 5.
Not a fit: Patients with serious physical or mental illnesses, sleep breathing disorders, or those currently undergoing psychological treatment may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could offer a holistic and non-drug treatment option for patients suffering from chronic insomnia and anxiety.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have indicated that Tai Chi may have therapeutic benefits for mental health conditions, suggesting potential success for this approach.
