What this trial studies
This pilot study investigates the effects of table tennis exercise on individuals with Parkinson's disease compared to cognitive training using board games. Participants will be divided into two groups, with one engaging in table tennis sessions and the other in cognitive training, both occurring twice a week for six weeks. The study aims to assess improvements in motor and cognitive functions, as well as clinical and daily life aspects. The expectation is that the table tennis group will show greater improvements in motor skills than the control group.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals diagnosed with Parkinson's disease who are in stages I to III and can walk unassisted for at least 10 minutes.
Not a fit: Patients with severe cognitive impairment, significant sensory deficits, or cardiovascular conditions that limit physical activity may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a novel exercise intervention that enhances motor function in patients with Parkinson's disease.
How similar studies have performed: While similar exercise interventions have shown promise in improving motor functions in Parkinson's patients, this specific approach using table tennis is relatively novel.
