What this trial studies
This observational study aims to gather insights from patients and their parents regarding the use of electroencephalographic (EEG) monitoring during general anesthesia in children. Participants, including children aged 12-16 and their parents, will complete an electronic survey before and after the anesthesia procedure. The study seeks to understand the perceptions and attitudes towards EEG monitoring, which is not typically standard practice but may enhance anesthesia management. The findings could help inform future practices and guidelines regarding EEG use in pediatric anesthesia.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are parents of children aged 1-16 years and patients aged 12-16 years scheduled for elective surgery requiring general anesthesia.
Not a fit: Patients undergoing emergency surgery will not benefit from this study as they are excluded from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could improve understanding of parental and patient attitudes towards EEG monitoring, potentially leading to better-informed decisions in pediatric anesthesia care.
How similar studies have performed: While EEG monitoring in adults has been studied, this specific focus on pediatric perceptions is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
