What this trial studies
This clinical trial investigates the effectiveness of arthroscopic partial trapezectomy combined with hematoma distraction for patients suffering from basal thumb arthritis. The procedure aims to alleviate pain and improve function in the carpometacarpal joint of the thumb, which is often severely affected by arthritis. Participants will be adults over 20 years old who have not found relief from conservative treatments for at least six months and are experiencing significant symptoms. The study will assess the outcomes of this surgical intervention in terms of pain reduction and functional improvement.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults over 20 years old with symptomatic basal thumb arthritis who have failed conservative treatment.
Not a fit: Patients with severe comorbidities, previous surgeries on the thumb, or active infections may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce pain and improve hand function for patients with thumb arthritis.
How similar studies have performed: While there is existing literature on surgical interventions for thumb arthritis, the specific combination of techniques in this study may offer novel insights into treatment efficacy.
