Surgery to preserve the meniscus in patients with meniscal extrusion
Evaluation of the Safety and Efficacy of Meniscal Preservation Surgery to Correct Meniscal Extrusion
This study is testing a new surgery to see if it can help people with a knee problem called meniscal extrusion by keeping their meniscus intact and preventing future issues like arthritis.

What this trial studies
This study evaluates the safety and efficacy of surgical techniques aimed at preserving the meniscus in patients experiencing meniscal extrusion. It focuses on patients scheduled for arthroscopic knee surgery, analyzing both the number and types of adverse events as well as patient-reported outcome measures to assess the success of the intervention. The goal is to centralize the extruded meniscus to its original position on the tibial plateau, thereby preventing further complications such as osteoarthritis. The study aims to provide insights into the long-term benefits of meniscal preservation surgery.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older scheduled for arthroscopic knee surgery to correct meniscal extrusion.
Not a fit: Patients requiring surgery for ACL or PCL reconstruction, or those with advanced knee osteoarthritis, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the risk of developing osteoarthritis in patients with meniscal extrusion.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes with similar meniscal centralization techniques, indicating potential for success in this approach.
