What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the impact of a Geriatric-Oncology-Supportive Clinic (GOSC) on the quality of life for older adults who have recently been diagnosed with cancer. The study recognizes the unique needs of older cancer patients, who often have complex health profiles that are not adequately addressed in traditional cancer treatment protocols. By employing a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA), the trial aims to identify vulnerabilities and create individualized care plans to improve treatment outcomes. The trial is randomized and controlled, comparing the GOSC approach to standard care.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals aged 65 and older who have been newly diagnosed with early or locally advanced cancer and are planning to undergo treatment.
Not a fit: Patients who have been seen in a Geriatric or Palliative Medicine Clinic in the prior six months may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance the quality of life for elderly cancer patients during their treatment.
