What this trial studies
This study evaluates the adaptation and implementation of two evidence-based interventions, the Mother's Empowerment Program and the Kid's Club Program, specifically tailored for Indigenous mothers and their children who have experienced intimate partner violence (IPV) in Canada. The research employs a two-eyed seeing approach, integrating both Western and Indigenous knowledge systems, and involves close collaboration with a Community Advisory Council and local Elders. The study aims to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of these adapted programs through a mixed methods evaluation, combining quantitative and qualitative data.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are English-speaking mothers who have self-reported experiences of past intimate partner violence and have at least one school-aged child.
Not a fit: Patients who do not have a history of intimate partner violence or do not meet the language and age criteria may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could empower Indigenous mothers and provide essential support for their children, improving their overall well-being and resilience against the impacts of IPV.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar culturally adapted interventions for marginalized populations, indicating potential for positive outcomes in this context.
