What this trial studies

This project aims to improve the health outcomes of Black family caregivers for older adults with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias through a culturally responsive intervention. The program consists of a peer-supportive and facilitator-led video teleconference that engages small groups of caregivers over six weeks. Participants will learn and practice various caregiving and personal health strategies, while also sharing their experiences and challenges. Assessments will be conducted at the beginning and end of the program to evaluate its effectiveness.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are Black/African American family caregivers aged 18 and older who provide care for individuals over 55 with Alzheimer's or related cognitive impairments.

Not a fit: Patients who do not identify as Black/African American or those who do not provide caregiving support for someone with Alzheimer's or related conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could enhance the health and caregiving abilities of Black family caregivers, leading to better outcomes for both caregivers and care recipients.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with culturally tailored interventions for caregivers, suggesting potential for positive outcomes in this approach.
