What this trial studies
This intervention aims to promote the physical and socioemotional health of African American families by addressing the unique stressors they face. The program will involve co-developing a culturally-tailored intervention that includes group support for parents, training in stress management, and connections to community resources. The study will assess the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary effectiveness of this intervention in improving health behaviors and mental health among African American parents and their children. The approach is guided by input from African American parents and community members to ensure relevance and effectiveness.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are African American parents who are expecting a child in the fall of 2024 and are comfortable discussing personal experiences in a group setting.
Not a fit: Patients who do not identify as African American or who are not expecting a child during the specified timeframe may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the mental health and family health behaviors of African American parents and their children.
How similar studies have performed: While similar culturally-tailored interventions have shown promise, this specific approach is novel and has not been extensively tested.
