What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the KOPPeling intervention designed to assist children of parents with mental illness (COPMI) by activating their social networks. The intervention aims to alleviate the burden on these children, who often take on parental responsibilities due to their parents' psychiatric conditions. By developing a strategic plan to engage family support systems, the study seeks to enhance the socio-emotional development of COPMI and reduce the risks associated with parentification. The effectiveness of this approach will be assessed through a randomized clinical trial.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are families with children aged 0-18 where at least one parent has a mental illness affecting their parenting abilities.
Not a fit: Families without an existing social network may not benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly improve the socio-emotional development of children affected by parental mental illness.
How similar studies have performed: While similar interventions targeting COPMI have been explored, the specific KOPPeling approach is relatively novel and untested.
