What this trial studies
This study focuses on addressing diabetes distress among Black young adults aged 18-30 years with type 1 diabetes (T1D) by testing a culturally tailored intervention called T1DES. The research aims to assess the feasibility of this intervention and evaluate its effects on diabetes management outcomes, including HbA1c levels and diabetes distress. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the T1DES intervention or standard diabetes education, with outcomes measured over a six-month period. The study seeks to fill a critical gap in diabetes care for this population and improve health equity.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are Black young adults aged 18-30 years with a confirmed diagnosis of type 1 diabetes and elevated HbA1c levels.
Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairments, severe disabilities, or diabetes complications that hinder participation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could lead to improved diabetes management and emotional support for Black young adults with type 1 diabetes.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is tailored specifically for Black young adults, similar culturally adapted interventions have shown promise in improving health outcomes in other populations.
