What this trial studies
This observational study aims to analyze the incidence and risk factors associated with pulmonary tuberculosis in children who were hospitalized at Strasbourg University Hospitals from 2012 to 2022. It focuses on understanding the clinical forms of the disease and identifying vulnerable populations, particularly those living with adults who have active tuberculosis or those with chronic health issues. By reviewing hospital records and data, the study seeks to provide insights into the epidemiology of childhood tuberculosis in a region where the disease is relatively rare. The findings could help inform public health strategies and improve care for affected children.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are children aged 1 to 17 years who were hospitalized for pulmonary tuberculosis at Strasbourg University Hospital between 2012 and 2022.
Not a fit: Patients who have not been hospitalized for pulmonary tuberculosis or whose guardians oppose the reuse of their data for research will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of childhood pulmonary tuberculosis and lead to better prevention and treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on tuberculosis in children, this specific observational approach focusing on a localized population over a decade is relatively novel.
