What this trial studies

This observational pilot study aims to assess the feasibility of measuring blood flow to and from the uterus using ultrasonography between 14 and 16 weeks of gestation. The study will recruit women with singleton pregnancies who are attending their routine ultrasound appointment. Participants will undergo a measurement day where they will rest in a supine position while blood flow measurements are taken. The goal is to evaluate the viability of these measurements for future research on placenta-related conditions.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are women aged 18 and older with singleton pregnancies between 14 and 16 weeks of gestation and a BMI under 30.

Not a fit: Patients with multiple gestations, congenital anomalies, or non-intact pregnancies will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding of placental health and its impact on pregnancy outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: While this approach is novel in measuring placental perfusion at this early stage, similar studies have shown promise in understanding placental health.
