What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a 4-week strengthening program for the peroneus longus muscle in patients with a flexible dorsiflexed first ray. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a treatment group that receives specific strengthening exercises or a control group that receives no intervention. The primary outcome measures will focus on the mean and maximum plantar pressure under the first metatarsal head during the push-off phase of gait. The goal is to enhance the function of the first ray, which is crucial for proper foot mechanics.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals with a flexible dorsiflexed first ray.
Not a fit: Patients with recent foot trauma, previous foot surgery, or systemic musculoskeletal diseases may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could improve gait mechanics and reduce discomfort for patients with a dorsiflexed first ray.
How similar studies have performed: While similar approaches have been explored, this specific intervention for the peroneus longus muscle in relation to the first ray is relatively novel.
