Strength and endurance training for people with Parkinson's disease

Strength-Endurance Circuit Training in Parkinson's Disease: Effects on Disease Severity, Physical Performance, Blood Biomarkers and Quality of Life.

NA · General University Hospital, Prague · NCT06893055

What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effects of combining strength training with aerobic training on patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease. Participants will engage in a 12-week intervention consisting of twice-weekly training sessions, with assessments conducted before, after, and three months post-intervention. The study will measure physical performance, disease severity, blood biomarkers, and quality of life to determine if the combined training offers greater benefits than aerobic training alone.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 to 75 with a diagnosis of idiopathic Parkinson's disease and a Hoehn-Yahr Scale score of 2.5 or lower.

Not a fit: Patients over 75 years old, those with advanced disease severity, or those unable to participate in the training sessions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance physical performance and quality of life for patients with Parkinson's disease.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown positive outcomes with combined strength and endurance training in similar patient populations, indicating potential for success in this approach.
