What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of early speech therapy on patients undergoing total thyroidectomy, focusing on those who may experience functional dysphonia. It includes pre-operative counseling to prepare patients for post-operative voice care. The goal is to assess whether this intervention can improve voice quality and reduce complications related to voice changes after surgery. Participants will be monitored for improvements in their vocal function following the therapy.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 21 to 65 who are scheduled for total thyroidectomy and can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients with a history of vocal cord paralysis, previous vocal or laryngeal pathologies, or other significant health issues may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly improve voice quality and recovery for patients after thyroid surgery.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on this specific approach, similar interventions in voice therapy have shown promise in improving outcomes for patients with voice disorders.
