What this trial studies
This is a prospective validation enrolling adolescents and young adults (15–25) diagnosed with cancer within the prior six months who are treated at participating centers. Participants complete the Spanish AYA-POST Distress Thermometer and accompanying psychosocial needs checklist at clinic visits. Responses will be analyzed for reliability, consistency, and the ability to identify psychosocial difficulties compared with established English-language results. If metrics meet predefined criteria, the tools could be recommended for routine use in Spanish-speaking oncology settings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are 15–25-year-olds with a cancer diagnosis or who started first non-surgical treatment within the past six months, who understand Spanish and receive care at a participating center.
Not a fit: Patients outside the 15–25 age range, not on first-line non-surgical treatment, with poor Spanish comprehension, or with severe neurological impairment are unlikely to benefit from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If validated, these brief Spanish tools could help clinicians quickly spot emotional distress and unmet social or practical needs and connect young patients with support.
How similar studies have performed: The AYA-POST approach was developed from NCCN tools and adapted and validated in English-speaking AYA populations, so similar validations have shown success internationally.
