What this trial studies
This clinical trial evaluates the effectiveness of a smoke-free home intervention aimed at reducing secondhand smoke exposure in rural tribal communities. Participants are randomized into two groups: one receives educational materials and coaching on maintaining a smoke-free home, while the other group receives usual care. The study aims to assess changes in smoking behavior and health outcomes over a follow-up period of 3 to 6 months. This innovative approach targets the intersection of rural and racial/ethnic inequities to improve health in Indigenous populations.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older who smoke or live with a smoker and do not reside in a smoke-free home within an American Indian household.
Not a fit: Patients who are under 18 years old or do not live in a household with smokers will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce secondhand smoke exposure and improve health outcomes for families in tribal communities.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with smoke-free home interventions, indicating potential for positive outcomes in similar populations.
