What this trial studies

This intervention aims to reduce secondhand smoke exposure in Armenia and Georgia, where smoking rates are notably high among men. The study will adapt an evidence-based smoke-free home intervention to local contexts and develop the capacity to deliver this intervention through community partners and national quitlines. It will be tested in a hybrid effectiveness-implementation randomized clinical trial, focusing on promoting smoke-free homes to protect children and non-smokers from tobacco smoke. The initiative builds on collaborations with local public health organizations and aims to address health disparities related to tobacco use.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older who smoke in the home and have children or non-smokers living with them, or non-smokers living with someone who smokes.

Not a fit: Patients who do not have children or non-smokers in their home, or who do not smoke, may not benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly reduce secondhand smoke exposure and improve health outcomes for families in Armenia and Georgia.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been successful interventions in other low- and middle-income countries, this specific approach tailored for Armenia and Georgia is relatively novel.
