What this trial studies
This research evaluates the effectiveness of a smartphone app designed to assist individuals diagnosed with opioid use disorder (OUD). Participants will use the app to submit videos of themselves taking salivary drug tests, receive reminders, rewards, and access to live support. The study involves a randomized controlled trial with two groups: one receiving a comprehensive program with incentives for drug abstinence and the other receiving a sham program. The study lasts one year, requiring participants to engage with the app and attend periodic interviews.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 or older, diagnosed with opioid use disorder, and willing to engage in treatment.
Not a fit: Patients currently enrolled in another substance abuse treatment study or those with concurrent alcohol use disorder may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could enhance recovery outcomes for individuals struggling with opioid use disorder by providing accessible support and motivation.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies utilizing smartphone-based interventions for substance use disorders have shown promising results, indicating potential for success in this approach.
