What this trial studies
This project is a prospective observational study aimed at improving medication preparation and delivery in the anesthesia workspace using a novel wearable device. The device captures video data to automatically detect drug administration events, enhancing patient safety and record-keeping. Anesthesia providers at the University of Washington Medical Center will wear the device during procedures, and the collected footage will be processed to develop machine learning algorithms for recognizing these events. The study seeks to streamline the documentation process in operating rooms.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are anesthesia providers, including attending anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists, working at the University of Washington Montlake Medical Center.
Not a fit: Medical students and anesthesiology residents will not benefit from this study as they are excluded from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this technology could significantly enhance patient safety and efficiency in drug administration during anesthesia.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar studies utilizing wearable technology for monitoring in medical settings have shown promise, indicating potential for success.
