What this trial studies
This study aims to develop and evaluate a smart cloth care system designed to support family caregivers of individuals with dementia in a home environment. Over three years, the first two years will focus on assessing the feasibility of the smart clothing and monitoring system, while the third year will involve a pilot test to measure its effects on caregivers and patients. The smart vest worn by dementia patients contains a monitor that communicates with sensors placed in the home, alerting caregivers and home care nurses to important health and safety information. The study will track outcomes for both caregivers and patients over a six-month period.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged 60 or older diagnosed with dementia who live with family members in northern Taiwan.
Not a fit: Patients who are terminally ill or reside in institutional settings may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this system could significantly enhance the safety and well-being of dementia patients while easing the caregiving burden on family members.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using smart clothing for caregiving is innovative, similar studies have shown promise in enhancing care for dementia patients through technology.
