What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of a Smart Care Model that utilizes smart clothing with alarm sensors to monitor fall risks and daily activity levels in older patients recovering from hip-fracture surgery. It employs a mixed-method approach, combining a randomized control trial with qualitative assessments to analyze health outcomes and caregiver burdens. Participants will be divided into two groups: one receiving the Smart Care Model and the other receiving usual care, with outcomes measured over the first year post-discharge. The study aims to improve clinical outcomes, self-care abilities, and quality of life for both patients and their caregivers.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 60 and older who have been admitted for a hip fracture and can perform a full range of motion.
Not a fit: Patients with severe cognitive impairment, terminal illness, or those without a primary family caregiver may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance recovery and quality of life for older patients after hip-fracture surgery.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using technology for monitoring and improving outcomes in elderly patients, suggesting potential success for this approach.
