Slow stomach emptying after pancreatic surgery
The Analysis of Delayed Gastric Emptying After Pancreatic Surgery
National Taiwan University Hospital · NCT07382791
We will look back at adults who had pancreatic surgery to see if surgical technique, use of a gastrointestinal feeding tube, how cleanly the tumor was removed, or the size of the remaining pancreas affect delayed stomach emptying.

What this trial studies
This retrospective project collects clinical, laboratory, and imaging data from adults who underwent pancreatic surgery at National Taiwan University Hospital. Investigators will gather preoperative and postoperative blood tests (blood counts, biochemistry, tumor markers, glucose- and lipid-related tests) and imaging studies (CT, MRI, ultrasound, PET, endoscopy) along with surgical details. They will compare surgical methods, gastrointestinal feeding tube placement, lesion margin clearance rates, and postoperative remnant pancreatic volume to the occurrence of delayed gastric emptying and related quality-of-life measures. The goal is to identify risk factors that predict delayed gastric emptying and to inform perioperative management.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 20 and over who underwent pancreatic surgery at National Taiwan University Hospital are the ideal candidates for inclusion.
Not a fit: People under 20, pregnant or breastfeeding women, those with other active cancers, or patients with psychiatric disorders were excluded and would not be represented in or benefit directly from these findings.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help surgeons choose techniques and feeding-tube practices that lower the risk of delayed gastric emptying, improving recovery and reducing delays to further treatment.
How similar studies have performed: Prior studies have identified several risk factors for delayed gastric emptying after pancreatic surgery but results have been inconsistent, so similar retrospective analyses have provided useful but not definitive guidance.
