What this trial studies

This is a randomized, controlled, three-arm education trial conducted with nurses who work with oncology patients in Istanbul. Participants are randomized to a simulation-based psychosocial care skills development program, a classical (lecture/practice) psychosocial care training, or a no-training control group. Outcomes are measured with validated self-report tools including a Psychosocial Care Competence Self-Assessment Scale and the Professional Quality of Life Scale, collected before and after the intervention; the simulation arm also completes simulation-specific satisfaction and design scales. The study aims to compare post-training competence, compassion fatigue, burnout, and compassion satisfaction across the three groups.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Oncology nurses with at least six months of experience who have not received psychosocial care training since graduation and who volunteer to participate.

Not a fit: Nurses with less than six months' oncology experience, those who already received post-graduate psychosocial care training, or non-oncology clinicians are unlikely to benefit from enrollment.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could help nurses provide better psychosocial support to cancer patients and reduce nurse burnout, improving patient experience and care continuity.

How similar studies have performed: Prior simulation-based education programs have improved nurses' communication, confidence, and clinical skills, and applying simulation to psychosocial care has shown promising results in smaller studies.
