What this trial studies
This intervention focuses on using siblings to help children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) improve their literacy and social communication skills. The approach involves a model-lead-test methodology where siblings model behaviors, prompt practice, and provide feedback. The study will last approximately 12 months, with an initial 3-month intervention period followed by follow-up assessments at 3, 6, and 9 months post-intervention. Assessments will include standardized scales for both children with ASD and their typically developing siblings.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder who can imitate actions and have typically developing siblings who can read at a basic level.
Not a fit: Children with aggressive behaviors towards their siblings or those who cannot comply with the intervention instructions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance literacy and social skills in children with autism, leading to improved communication and academic outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that sibling-mediated interventions can be effective for children with ASD, suggesting a promising approach in this context.
