What this trial studies
This pilot implements short educational videos shown to adult patients with ovarian or endometrial cancer who are eligible for genetic testing. Participants will view one of three diagnosis-specific videos in English or Spanish and may complete a brief satisfaction survey. Investigators will perform a chart review comparing rates of genetic testing orders and genetics referrals before and after the videos are introduced. The project aims to estimate changes in testing and referral rates and collect patient feedback on the video materials.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults (18+) with a diagnosis of ovarian or endometrial cancer who are eligible for genetic testing, primarily English- or Spanish-speaking, who have not already completed genetic testing and who received their initial cancer-directed treatment at the study site.
Not a fit: Patients who have already completed genetic testing, who are not eligible for testing, or who cannot view the videos due to language or access barriers are unlikely to benefit from the intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, more eligible patients could receive genetic testing and counseling, enabling personalized treatment decisions and informing family members about inherited risk.
How similar studies have performed: Multimedia education has increased screening or testing uptake in other clinical areas, but evidence specifically for genetic testing in gynecologic oncology is limited and mixed.
