What this trial studies
This is a single-center, prospective trial enrolling men who present to the clinic with stable Peyronie's disease. Eligible participants who provide consent will all receive a standard extracorporeal shockwave therapy protocol. Outcomes will be measured before and after treatment using the International Index of Erectile Function-5 and a short-form quality of life questionnaire. The collected data will be analyzed statistically to determine any changes following the treatment.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Men aged 18-65 with Peyronie's disease that has been stable for at least six months and with a palpable penile plaque who have not had prior surgery, needle therapy, or shockwave treatment are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Men in the acute inflammatory stage, those with severe erectile dysfunction, prior penile cancer, uncontrolled diabetes, severe coagulopathy, or on anticoagulant therapy are unlikely to benefit or be eligible.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the treatment could reduce plaque-related curvature and pain and improve erectile function and quality of life.
How similar studies have performed: Previous small studies of extracorporeal shockwave therapy for Peyronie's disease have reported mixed results, with some improvements in pain or plaque but inconsistent effects on curvature and erectile function.
