Sensory integrated therapy for children with autism
Effect of Sensory Integrated Therapy Exercises on Repetitive Behaviour, Communication, Social Interaction and Motor Skills in the Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder
This will test whether sensory integrated therapy (SIT) helps 5-to-11-year-old children with autism improve repetitive behaviors, communication, social interaction, and motor skills.

What this trial studies
The trial enrolls 30 children aged 5–11 with high-functioning autism and sensory processing difficulties, excluding those with other neurological conditions, physical disabilities, or current use of hypnotic/sedative medications. Participants are assigned to an experimental group that receives 12 SIT sessions over four weeks (three 45-minute sessions per week) or to a control group that receives no intervention, with pre- and post-intervention measurements. Outcomes include repetitive behavior, communication, social interaction, and motor skills measured using the RBQ-2 and GARS-2, and data will be analyzed using SPSS v23. The study uses a small pre-post comparison between groups to look for changes after the intervention.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are high-functioning children with autism aged 5–11 who have sensory processing difficulties and are not taking sedative or hypnotic medications and do not have other neurological or physical disabilities.
Not a fit: Children with other neurological disorders, physical disabilities, or who use sedative or hypnotic drugs were excluded and may not experience the same benefits or be eligible for these findings.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, SIT could reduce repetitive behaviors and improve communication, social interaction, and motor skills in participating children.
How similar studies have performed: Some prior studies of sensory integration therapies in autism report modest improvements in sensory-related behaviors and motor skills, but overall evidence is mixed and not definitive.
