Self-triage in breast cancer screening using digital mammography and AI
Project 1: Self-Triage by 2D Full-field Digital Mammography or Synthetic Images NOTE: Note, This is One Study Under Study ID 386408 Project 1: Radiologist Studies
This study is testing if radiologists can accurately decide which breast cancer screening cases are normal using just 2D digital mammography images, with some help from AI, to make the screening process faster and easier.

What this trial studies
This study investigates the feasibility of radiologists triaging breast cancer screening cases based solely on 2D digital mammography images, potentially aided by artificial intelligence (AI). The goal is to determine how accurately radiologists can identify normal cases without reviewing more complex 3D digital tomosynthesis images, thereby streamlining the screening process. The study will assess radiologists' willingness to rely on their judgment and AI opinions for case dismissal. This approach aims to enhance efficiency in breast cancer screening while ensuring that no cancers are overlooked.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are radiologists or radiology trainees with experience in reading mammography.
Not a fit: Patients with visual acuity less than 20/25 may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly reduce the time and resources needed for breast cancer screening, improving patient throughput and potentially leading to earlier detection.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of AI in radiology is a growing field, this specific approach to triaging cases based on 2D images is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested in prior studies.
