What this trial studies

This clinical trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of self-screening for atrial fibrillation (AF) using the ECG247 patch monitor. It focuses on older adults who are at risk for stroke, assessing whether long-term continuous ECG monitoring can reduce morbidity associated with undiagnosed AF. The study will involve randomized participants who meet specific age and risk factor criteria, while excluding those with a history of AF or certain medical devices. The goal is to improve early detection and management of AF in the community.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 65 and older with at least one additional stroke risk factor.

Not a fit: Patients with a history of atrial fibrillation or those currently using anticoagulation therapy will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to earlier diagnosis and reduced complications from atrial fibrillation for patients.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using self-monitoring technologies for AF detection, suggesting potential success for this approach.
