What this trial studies
This study evaluates the ReDirection program, a cognitive-behavioral self-help intervention designed for individuals with low to medium risk of committing child sexual abuse. The program aims to reduce the use of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and related behaviors by helping participants understand and manage their risky thoughts and feelings. It will be available in seven languages and tested across six countries, focusing on providing accessible and evidence-based care for those concerned about their sexual interests. The primary goal is to assess the feasibility, effectiveness, and safety of this intervention.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals with low to medium risk of committing child sexual abuse who have used CSAM in the past six months and can communicate in one of the program's available languages.
Not a fit: Patients with severe psychiatric illnesses or those lacking serious intentions to participate may not benefit from this program.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce the risk of child sexual abuse by providing effective support to individuals with concerning sexual interests.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach is innovative, similar cognitive-behavioral interventions have shown promise in addressing related issues, suggesting potential for success.
